Vacation all I ever wanted...

Hey everyone! This blogger is taking a few days off to attend a wedding in sunny Miami. And in honor of the Magic City, here are two pictures from one of my favorite movie homes...Al Pacino's sweet digs in the movie Scarface. Enjoy, and I'll see you when I get back!

Cool Buy: Reflections Placemat @ MoMA Store

I'm not really a morning person. I need caffeine and carbs and cold showers and my daily dose of Matt Lauer to help me wake up. You know what else helps? A little sunshine. And aren't these the placemat-equivalent of sunshine?

Good morning!

$18 each. ($16.20 for members)

Bold & Beautiful Bathrooms @ HGTV.com

We are going to renovate our guest bathroom this year so I was poking around on HGTV.com looking for some ideas. How's this for a pop of color?

Now, my dear husband is vehemently anti-wall paper because we had to remove a lot of it when we moved into our home. REMOVING WALLPAPER IS A DIRTY TEDIOUS TASK. If you can afford to, pay someone to do it. Trust me on this.

Even though I clearly have some wallpaper trauma in my recent past, I still love it in small doses and interesting patterns. Like the one above.

Cool Buy: Recycled Glass Sconce @ Terrain

Terrain has some incredible lighting and it is all on sale through February 29th.

You're welcome. Don't say I never gave you anything.

Here's one of my favorite pieces: the recycled glass sconce:

Originally $498, now on sale for $348.60.

Cool Buy: Shore Can Shelf @ ModCloth.com

I am attracted to products with clever names so it should come as no surprise that I had to post this cute little whale shelf from ModCloth.

No, it's not called "Whale Shelf." That would be boring! Predictable! Snoozefest!

Ir's actually called "Shore Can Shelf" and it would look adorable in a kid's (or fun grown up's) bathroom!

$48.99.

Mea culpa...

Hey everybody!

Sorry I've been M.I.A. this past week. I did the DUMBEST thing. I stuck my finger in an immersion blender and turned it on.

No, I hadn't been drinking. No, it wasn't a cry for help. Yes, I do realize how dumb that was.

Amazingly enough I still have my entire finger and I don't need surgery. I just have to wear a splint like this for six looooong weeks:
This is a picture I found online...trust me, you don't want to see my actual splint. First of all, I didn't have time to get a manicure before I tried to cut off my digit. Second, my splint is wrapped in tape that seems to attract every piece of dust and crud in my house. Gross. Honestly? I feel like I'm walking around wearing one of these:

No, a foam finger would be cooler.

Sigh...anywho, as you can imagine, it is very hard to type without my finger. So I took a little blog break. But I missed you all so. I'm going to get back in the saddle and post some stuff this week. I promise!

Cool Buy: Kitchen Art Print @ Restyle Prints/Etsy

$21, signed and unframed.

Are you a tea drinker? No problem:

$19, signed and unframed.

Amazing DIY - The Book Bath

Someone actually took the time to make this:

Unreal, right? Even the floor of the tub is made of book pages. Click here to see more pictures.

Cool Buy: Hourglass Table @ Apartment 48

What's my deal with citrus colored furniture anyway?

I love this side table. The size is perfect for small spaces...a small bedroom (cute nightstand!), a small living room (big enough for a cocktail!), a small reading nook (big enough to hold that bodice ripper you're reading!)....you get the idea.

The lemon yellow is so cheery. It's also available in orange, light blue, green, red, black, white and mahogany

$315 at Apartment48.com.

Cool Buy: Monogram Number Pillow Cover @ Habitation/Etsy

Etsy is going to be the death of me. I could surf that site for HOURS. HOURS. That's just not healthy. It's just not right.

This, however, is so right:

$52 at Habitation.

5 Crazy Bedrooms @ Yahoo! Real Estate

I had to post a link to this fun story on Yahoo! Real Estate...the pictures are amazing. Take this one, for example:

Why YES. That IS a waterslide on the bedroom.

Cool Buy: Cupcake Drawer Pulls @ Shimrita/Etsy

Shimrita loves her some cupcakes. I mean she REALLY likes cupcakes. I like cupcakes, too, but Shimrita takes it to a whole other level. Cupcake jewelry, fake cupcakes that look enticingly real, and, my favorite:

Cupcake drawer pulls. Are these not adorable and yummy? (don't eat them) Wouldn't they look adorable in a little girl's room? Answers: YES and YES.

$16 for the pair. While you're there, don't forget to check out the whole cupcake shebang. It's calorie-free to look.

Cool Buy: Vintage Tin Globe Bank @ Three Potato Four

Every time I see one of these while on a junking excursion, I want to buy it. (in fact, next time I WILL buy one and put it on my Etsy shop)

I recently saw a show on HGTV where the designer used vintage globes in all different sizes as a dining room centerpiece and it looked SO COOL. A grouping of globes would also make a great accent in an office or child's room. Pretty AND educational! Impress your friends with your vast knowledge of geography! (or your amazing ability to fake it!)

These vintage globe banks can be found in all different sizes and fairly inexpensively at antique/junk shops. Three Potato Four makes it easy for you to start your collection - there are currently two globes for sale on their site.

$24 for the smaller globe, $38 for the larger globe.

Cool Buy: Benedict Entry Bench @ Jayson Home

I would post a picture of my mudroom to show you why this entry bench could be so useful, but I'm embarrassed for you to see how many Ugg-style boots and scarves I own. No matter how many coat hooks and bins I buy, I can't seem to keep my mudroom organized.

Certainly THIS might help?

You can sit on it to take off your (MANY) Ugg boots. You can tuck a variety of scarves (and mittens and hats, etc.) into the drawers. You can get aforementioned (MANY) Ugg boots off the soggy pile on the floor.

WIN-WIN-WIN.

$850.

Cool Buy: Cage Fuel Pendant Lamp @ CB2

I'm kind of obsessed with lighting these days. I'm on the hunt for two floor lamps for my living room.

This is NOT a floor lamp, but man I wish I had a place for it:

See how easily distracted I am by bright shiny things? I'm like a toddler. A toddler with a credit card. DANGEROUS!

$149 for the red. $179 for the brass. Both available at CB2.

Say what?!

I love this site, Rummage by Kishani Perera. She always has such lovely vintage finds - categorized into furniture and lighting - and beautiful new items, including a great selection of unique home accessories. I like to poke around her site every now and then to see what other treasures she's unearthed. Today I saw this:

Brass filigree side table, $850.

I love it. In fact, I bought it about six months ago at a wonderful shop in town called The Humble Home.

I paid $35 for mine. WOOT WOOT! Now I don't know if Rummage is just overpricing her stuff, or Humble Home seriously underpriced it....but either way, I'm feeling pretty good about my buy!

My friend over at TheRetailBitch can vouch for me on this post as we were together when I found the table. This makes my day!

Cool Buy: Cross Side Table @ HORNE

I'm on the hunt for functional yet stylish nightstands for our bedroom. These are nice, no?

A drawer to hold my hand cream and book and plenty of surface space for the other junk I'm sure to stack on there.

$570 with free shipping at ShopHorne.com!

Cool Buy: Tree of Life Bed @ Viva Terra

Ooooh pretty.

I would put this bed in my guest room and then load it up with pillows. Why? Because I like to read in bed and without a million pillows you couldn't really recline comfortably. But that's neither here nor there. This bed is so pretty and light. It almost looks as though it's made entirely of tree branches. As a teen I would've wrapped Christmas lights around the "branches" on the bed.

Who am I kidding? I love Christmas lights - I'd probably do that today. Fire hazard? Maybe. Fun? Absolutely.

On sale now at Viva Terra, $2,795-$3,795.

Cool Buy: Dot Matrix Rug @ Land of Nod

A little late with the posting. Sorry....today was nutters. Doctor's appointments, baby who wouldn't nap, work stuff, etc.

Anyhoodles, here we go:

I love this rug. I can't think of anything witty to say about it other than it looks like a bunch of balled up Peeps sewn together and I think it would feel awfully nice and squishy between my toes.

$349 for a 4X6 rug. (if you need more you could purchase two and stitch them together) Cute, right? Right.

Cool Buy: Mistletoe Pendant Lamp @ Mothology

I love the name of this lamp. Raw Metal Mistletoe Pendant Lamp.

They almost look alive. I almost expect some goggle eyes to pop out from under that shag.

These would look great in an already well-lit room as they don't appear to provide a ton of light. But hanging over an island in a kitchen with great overhead lighting? Gorgeous.

$318 for the large (16"x16" and currently out of stock) and $118 for the small (9x9 and ready to come home!) on Mothology.com.

Cool Buy: Montauk Coffee Table @ Zinc Door

This coffee table reminds me of summers on the Outer Banks. (not Long Island...though I'm sure Long Island is lovely in the summer)

The base is made of driftwood, the top of distressed steel. It's earthy yet industrial and I love it.

$1,461 at ZincDoor.com.

Cool Buy: Slat Rack @ Wallter

We have coat hooks in our mudroom. Four of them. There are three people living in our house, and yet the FOUR coat hooks are constantly overloaded with stuff. And not just coats. Handbags, scarves, umbrellas, bags of drycleaning, bags containing shoes that need to be resoled but have been hanging on aforementioned coat hooks for eight months now....

etc. etc. etc.

Know what we need? Did you say "less junk?" WRONG! The correct answer is: MORE HOOKS!

$145 and available in green, orange, white and chocolate brown on Wallter.com.

Cool Buy: Stick-Up Weekly Calendar @ Poketo

BONUS POST!

I just ordered these and am tempted to order several more in order to stockpile and ensure I am never without.

Post-It Note-style weekly calendars. I'll put a fresh page on the fridge each week in an effort to keep my family organized.

HOORAY! $10 at Poketo.com.

Cool Buy: Cheap Art @ Poketo

I like art. I think I have mentioned this before. I love art that makes me think and smile and want to stare. I love art with lots of texture and movement. I like that I can afford. Hey! Here's some!

Muswell Hillbilly by Tim Gough
First Thing by Ashkahn
Falling Flowers by Chris Bettig
All of these prints (and more!) are sold on Poketo.com for $40. Each listing also includes the artist's biography so you can learn more about where your super cool piece comes from. Add a $15 frame from Target and BAM! Instant art collector.

Cool Buy: Double Walled Glass Tumblers @ Canvas

Things I received from my mother-in-law last week:

1. Two tubs of pimento cheese. I almost ate one before the hubby got home and then lied to him about how many tubs were in the package. But I restrained myself, thank you very much.

2. This amazing book:

3. A subscription to Garden & Gun magazine. Don't let the name scare you, it is awesome. If you live in the South, visit the South, plan on visiting the South, you need this magazine.

She's awesome, huh?
Yep.

So flipping through G&G I came across these fabulous tumblers.

The green reminds me of beach glass which - FYI - is really hard to find. The violet is so ladylike without being girly. (no easy feat) They're all beautiful at $15 each at CanvasHomeStore.com.

Cool Buy: Tripod Floor Lamp @ Target

I saw this lamp in person yesterday and let me tell you, it's a whole lotta lamp for under $50.

$49.99 (plus free shipping if you spend more than $50!) at Target.

Cool Buy: Collins Leather Sofa @ Restoration Hardware

This sofa has the perfect blend of casual elegance. Clean lines in a classic design, but slouchy enough that it makes a girl want to sprawl out on it with a slice of pizza and flannel pajama pants.

On sale now: $2795-$4670.

Cool Buy: Masala Lacquered Tray @ DwellStudio

We were finally able to get rid of our (cheap) ottoman-style coffee table in the living room now that our daughter is more stable on her feet and we don't have to worry about daily head injuries. We picked up a gorgeous, Mid-Century walnut Lane coffee table for a song at the River Market Antique Mall. Hooray! Furniture that we like!

The table was in perfect condition with not a scratch on it. Until my daughter got to it with her wooden sushi set. That girl can be rough with her wasabi, you know what I mean? And now it has a few small scratches that make me twitch whenever I look at them.

Problem solved: a pretty tray to hide them!

I love this beautiful tray from Dwell Studios. Don't they just make the prettiest things? It's all shiny and clean looking. And the lovely lining is a nice surprise. Perfect for setting down a cocktail, TV remotes, or fake California rolls.

$63 at DwellStudio.com.

Cool Buy: God Father Lounge Chair @ Skate Study House

This post comes courtesy of my husband whose love of skateboards is surpassed only by his love of surfing. (you thought I was going to say his love of me, right? Obviously I come WAY before any kind of board, thank you very much.)

This company - Skate Study House - is amazing. Based in California and focused on environmentally-conscious design, these guys use skateboard design as the inspiration behind some pretty cool furniture. Like the God Father Lounge Chair:

See those leather ovals? They're inspired by the shape of a skateboard deck. Cool, eh? Wait, there's more.

This divider is made of the same maple plywood that good skateboards are made of.

Okay, one more:

Skateboard wheels! So cute for a boys room or man cave.

All prices available upon request by emailing info@skatestudyhouse.com.

Cool Buy: Dodu Bed @ BluDot

Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. And that someone is ME.

Perhaps I'm a little cranky because I only had one cup of coffee when I'm usually a two-a-day type of girl. Or maybe it's because I just had to spend $100 on a Tempur-Pedic pillow because I keep waking up with stabby neck pain. Actually, now that I think about it, it's probably the stabby neck pain making me cranky.

Maybe if I were waking up in this gorgeous bed I would be more chipper?

Probably not, because the stupid Tempur-Pedic pillow (only available in a standard size at Bed, Bath & Beyond) would be throwing off the pillow balance on an otherwise lovely and clean bed. For the record, I will be storing aforementioned pillow in the closet when it's not in use.

Anywho, back to the bed. Nice, right? It's also available in Charcoal, Graphite and Wheat. Or gray, black and beige for us non-artsy types.

$1,699 at BluDot.com.

Cool Buy: Darjeeling Console @ Serena & Lily

I need Serena & Lily to stop sending me its catalog. Each issue makes me want to burn everything in my living room and start over. I would probably start with this in my entryway:

Actually, I would order this entire entryway vignette to be shipped to my home, ASAP. Along with a large supreme pizza with side of bread sticks. I get hungry when I shop.

$795.
