Cool Buy: Stadler Form OTTO Fan @ Gracious Home

My newly finished basement was flooded during a bad storm last week. We brought out all the usual flood accompaniments. Shop vac, beach towels, Damp Rid and, last but not least, fans. Maybe I wouldn't have been so cranky about the whole situation if I'd had a fan like this:

And it's on sale for $199.99 at Gracious Home.

Cool Buy: Lucite & Rattan Lounge Chairs @ Pieces Inc.

Now here's something you don't see every day. Lucite AND rattan:

But it sort of works here, no? I mean, I kind of love them. And I'm also kind of confused by them. I'll let you decide.

Cool Buy: Organic Chevron Bedding @ WestElm

I'm really into anything tribal these days, especially for bedding. Here's what I would term "tribal lite" on West Elm's new Organic Chevron Duvet and Shams:

$24-$109. They look beautiful, clean and inviting when paired with crisp white sheets, but I can also imagine them as part of a more bold color palette. Think fuchsia or teal sheets and vibrant pillows like these from DwellStudio:
 Now we're talking!

Design Idea: Jars of Stuff

I love Ball jars. I don't know what my fascination is, but any time I see a Ball jar filled with something other than jelly, I get happy. Sitting on my desk right now I have an old jar filled with marbles. I have never played marbles but boy do I love my jar of 'em. I've also seen them filled with old spools of thread, vintage buttons or matchbooks and sea shells. Love, love, love and love.

While on vacation in the Outer Banks - my daughter's first trip to the beach - my husband polished off a jar of preserves. (the man likes his jelly) Seeing that empty Ball jar sitting on the counter was like seeing a world of possibilities open up before my very eyes.

Okay perhaps that was a bit dramatic. But I was pumped and I had a great idea for the perfect souvenir to remind us of that special trip.

That evening on the beach with my daughter and hubby (and Design Assistant Magnus, of course), I started picking up small white smooth stones. Three days later I had this:

The jar is now sitting on our bookshelf along with my husband's collection of surf books:

Every time I look at it I'll remember that trip and how happy little C was while frolicking in the surf.

I think it's a much better memento than oh, say, this:

Cool Buy: Marimekko Shop @ Crate & Barrel

Confession. I don't LOVE Marimekko. I like it. I like it a lot sometimes. Other times I like it less. But I am excited about Crate & Barrel's new Marimekko shops (even though they will only have physical locations in NY, LA, Chicago and San Fran) because their stuff is fun and punchy and unique. And I like all those attributes. So rather than focus on what I don't like about Marimekko, allow me to focus on what I DO like:
Marimekko Pieni Unikko Lime 20" Pillow, $41
Marimekko Karkuteilla Kids 3-Piece Place Setting, $69
Kaareva Ottoman, $999
Marimekko Iltavilli Mug, $20

Cool Casa Is Peddling Its Wares!

I have a problem. A slight shopping addiction. Admitting it is the first step. The next step? Selling my stuff.

I'm always cruising antique malls, yard sales, junk shops and flea markets but my house is only SO BIG. How many tchochkees can one house hold? Answer: a lot. But it's time to share the wealth. So check out the Official Cool-Casa Etsy Shop for some of my favorite fun finds! Here's a taste of what you'll find:

Don't forget to bookmark the page. I'll be updating it with new fun stuff all the time!

Cool Buy: Powdercoated Trophy @ Alice Supply Co.

Honestly, I don't know why I love this:
I just do. I don't know if I'd love it for $82, but it makes me want to scour flea markets for trophies and then spray paint them hot pink. Or yellow. It's also available in yellow.

Cool Buy: Nocturnal Nightlight @ Land Of Nod

True story. I used to work in the hotel business and traveled a lot. It's not nearly as fun and glam as it sounds. For example, I got to spend four days in Hawaii but visited three islands and stayed in four hotels. IN FOUR DAYS. Schleping luggage and laptop, spending hours touring the kitchens and ballrooms, and sneaking longing peeks out at the beautiful ocean that was so close, yet so far away.

Many times - and I mean MANY times - I would wake up in the middle of the night forgetting where I was and walk into a wall on my way to the bathroom. Some days when I'd been away more than I'd been home, I would walk into the walls of my own apartment. (I could've SWORN I was still at the Hilton Atlanta Airport!)

This little cutie from Land of Nod would've been most helpful:

Cool Buy: Oslo Sideboard @ Crate & Barrel

Love the look of mid-century modern furniture but not a fan of buying "used" stuff? (Really? But used stuff is so fun!) Scandinavian masters of sleek and stylish design are at it again, this time with the Oslo Collection for Crate & Barrel. Check out this fabulous sideboard:

Cool Buy: 3.0 Chandelier @ CB2

I know I blog a lot about CB2. Too much, maybe. But I love it. To be honest, a lot of the stuff wouldn't work in my home or with my lifestyle, but God help me, whenever I see that catalog in my mailbox I want to hug it. And sometimes I do. Maybe THAT'S why the neighbors don't talk to me. Hmmm...

Here's another reason to love CB2. The 3.0 Chandelier:

UNCOOL BUY: Reonelli Bed @ Chiasso

Scroll up for a minute. See how I said I would try to focus on the good and keep the ugly to a minimum? I think I've been pretty good about it. But I can no longer keep that muzzle on. What in the name of Tony Montana is this?

A giant, round, black leather bed. I'm sorry. I'm sorry to any of you readers who have always wanted a round bed but have struggled with finding round sheets and now VOILA! Your dream bed awaits! It's hideous. It's the kind of thing you'd see at a seedy 1970s motel. The champagne glass-shaped hot tub would be in the opposite corner. Or worse, it's the kind of thing you'd see in some middle-aged life-crisis-having bachelor pad. It requires zebra or leopard satin sheets. And Lysol. SO MUCH LYSOL.

$1298 and it comes in white. Eeeew. Sorry, Chiasso. You make many pretty things but this isn't one of them. But just to show how benevolent and forgiving I am, here are a few things I DO like from this month's catalog:

Peacock Pillow, $48.

Dance Step Doormat, $28.
Priority Mailbox, $78.

And in case you're wondering if there is ever a round bed I would approve of, the answer is YES:

Now THAT'S delicious design.

Cool Buy: Manhattan Drinking Glasses @ TableArt

Oh dear. May have to look into a second mortgage:

These are mouth-blown German crystal. Prices range from $55 for the small tumbler, to $129 for the carafe. Granted, I would probably be nervous about using them around children, pets, possible wind storms, people with hiccups, and my husband. But otherwise I think they'd make a lovely addition to my dishware collection.

Cool Buy: Missoni For Target

Well, howdy ya'll! Two weeks of hanging beachside in North Carolina has left me tan and 6 pounds heavier. Both signs of a fabulous vacation!

But now I am back and ready to rejoin the ranks of the daily bloggers. I was flipping through the latest issue if House Beautiful and came across an ad for the Missoni for Target collection. MISSONI! Look at these!

Out of my way shoppers! I'm loading up!

Prices range from $2.99-$54.99 (a steal for anything Missoni!). The collection will be available in Target stores from September 13-October 22.

Cool Buy: Nook Bed @ BluDot

Is this bed the coolest?

Something about those little side flaps make it seem so cozy. Also, this color is called "guacamole." Yum. I love guacamole. Who wouldn't want to sleep in a guacamole bed?? Okay maybe a few people. But for those people BluDot offers this bed in three other colors: Smoke, Dark Roast and Chalk.
