Trailer chic? I kid you not.

In this month's issue of American Way, the American Airlines inflight magazine and one of my favorite reads, they featured a series of seriously cool - ready for it? - trailer hotels. These totally affordable, totally fun hotel rooms on wheels are fantastic examples of good use of space AND kitschy design.

Take the Hicksville Trailer Palace in Joshua Tree, CA, for example. (great name, no?)  This fabulous spot features nine themed trailers with names like The Pony, The Integratrailor, and The Sweet. My personal favorite? The Fifi which features, among other things, sparkly gold vinyl banquets in the dining area, and a mini wig shop. Of course.

Rates start at just $75 a night. A bargain AND a good story to share with your friends!

The Grand Daddy Hotel in Cape Town, South Africa is just a cool urban hotel....with a trailer park on the roof. If I were to stay here I would pick the Afro-Funk trailer. When in Rome, and all that. How chic is this?

Rates start at $150 a night.

Here's a trailer suite at El Cosmico in Marfa, Texas:

So gorgeous. I need that chair.

There are plenty more where that came from, including the BelRepayre Airstream & Retro Trailer Park in Mirepoix, France and The Shady Dell in Brisbee, Arizona.

Makes me want to hit the road. You?

  1. OMGosh, we were awake at the same time this morning. why didn't you telephone for a chat? fear of getting zapped while on the phone by lightning? yeah, me too. LOVE the trailers post. a teeny dream of mine would be to refurbish a classic Airstream, style that thang outta this world, and park in a gorgeous meadow somewhere.
